Myanmar: Golden Pagodas and Complex History

Myanmar (formerly Burma), in Southeast Asia, is known for thousands of Buddhist pagodas, diverse ethnic groups, and recent political turmoil. After decades of military rule, brief democratic opening, and military coup in 2021, Myanmar faces uncertain future.

Bagan's archaeological zone contains thousands of Buddhist temples, creating one of Asia's most impressive ancient landscapes. The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is covered in gold and houses Buddha relics. Myanmar's diverse geography spans tropical coasts, river valleys (Irrawaddy River), and mountainous regions.

Myanmar has over 100 ethnic groups, with Bamar being the majority. Theravada Buddhism deeply influences culture. Despite recent conflicts and military dictatorship, Myanmar's people maintain cultural traditions, resilient spirit, and hope for democracy. The country's jade, rubies, and other gems make it a major gemstone source.
