Arkansas, in the South Central region, is known as the "Natural State" for its mountains, forests, rivers, and hot springs. The state features Ozark and Ouachita Mountains in the north and west, with fertile lowlands in the east along the Mississippi River.
Hot Springs National Park preserves historic bathhouses fed by natural thermal springs. Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only place in the US where public can dig for diamonds. Little Rock, the capital, was site of the Little Rock Nine school integration crisis in 1957. The Buffalo National River offers pristine canoeing.
Arkansas's economy includes agriculture (rice, soybeans, poultry), Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, and manufacturing. Former President Bill Clinton hails from Arkansas. The state's culture blends Southern tradition with Ozark mountain heritage. Blanchard Springs Caverns showcases underground beauty. Despite being one of the poorest states, Arkansas maintains natural beauty and outdoor recreation.
