Colorado: Rocky Mountain High

Colorado, in the Rocky Mountain region, is known for world-class skiing, outdoor recreation, and 58 peaks over 14,000 feet ("fourteeners"). The state features dramatic mountain scenery, high plains, and a thriving outdoor lifestyle culture.

Denver, the "Mile High City" at exactly one mile elevation, serves as gateway to the Rockies. Aspen, Vail, and Breckenridge are premier ski resorts. Rocky Mountain National Park, Garden of the Gods, and Mesa Verde's ancient cliff dwellings attract visitors. Colorado River headwaters begin here. The state has 300 days of sunshine annually.

Colorado's economy includes aerospace, technology, brewing (more breweries per capita than any state), and cannabis (first state to legalize recreational marijuana). Mining heritage includes gold, silver, and molybdenum. The state has highly educated population and emphasis on fitness and outdoor activities. Colorado Springs has US Air Force Academy and Olympic Training Center. Pike's Peak inspired "America the Beautiful."
