Nevada: Silver State

Nevada, the most mountainous state, is known for Las Vegas gambling and entertainment, vast deserts, and libertarian politics. The driest state has beautiful, harsh landscapes and "what happens in Vegas" culture.

Las Vegas, the largest city, is built on gambling, entertainment, and conventions with iconic Strip casinos. Reno is "the biggest little city in the world." Carson City is the capital. Lake Tahoe on the California border offers skiing and alpine beauty. Nevada Test Site hosted nuclear weapons testing. The state has extensive public land managed by the federal government. Hoover Dam provides power and water.

Nevada's economy relies on tourism, gambling, mining (gold, silver), and military bases. No state income tax and business-friendly regulations attract companies. Rapid growth, particularly in Las Vegas, strains water resources from Lake Mead. Nevada's libertarian spirit includes legal prostitution in rural counties and 24-hour alcohol service. The state transformed from frontier mining to modern entertainment. Area 51 conspiracy theories add mystique. Desert landscapes are harsh but beautiful.
